Course summary

The Diploma of Accounting is nationally recognised course. This course is structured to provide students with a range of specific accounting knowledge and skills such as maintaining accounting systems, maintaining internal control systems, preparing financial statements for a reporting entity, preparing tax returns, reporting on business performance and preparing management accounting reports. This course offers a useful and practical qualification for students interested in a career in Finance, Accounting, and Commerce. Students will also develop employability skills required by industry such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving and self-management. This qualification is made up of core and elective units. The course is delivered over a year which includes 36 weeks (i.e. 4 terms) of teaching and 16 weeks of holiday.

Entry Requirements

Applicants seeking to enrol in this course must satisfy the following English and Academic requirements:

Age

  • Must be 18 years of age or over

English Proficiency Level

  • IELTS band score of 5.5 or equivalent

Academic Qualifications

Satisfactory completion of primary and secondary education of approximately 12 years duration

Completion of the following six (6) UOC, or their equivalent, which constitute the requirements for the FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set:

  • FNSACC311 Process financial transactions and extract interim reports
  • FNSACC312 Administer subsidiary accounts and ledgers
  • FNSACC408 Work effectively in the accounting and bookkeeping industry
  • FNSACC416 Set up and operate a computerised accounting system
  • FNSTPB401 Complete business activity and instalment activity statements
  • FNSTPB402 Establish and maintain payroll systems;

OR

Completion of FNS40615 Certificate IV in Accounting or equivalent;

OR

Completion of FNS40215 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or equivalent;

Duration 52 weeks consisting of 36 weeks (9-week term) of face-to-face study and 16 weeks of holiday.
Timetable Full time 20-hour face-to-face per week basis
Learning infrastructure and student amenities

The College is located at the heart of the city of Sydney. The college is 10 minutes walking distances from the Town hall train station and only 2 minutes walking distances from public bus stops.

The college has excellent teaching and computer facilities to support delivery. These include:

  • Class Rooms with white board, computers and data projectors
  • Computer labs with appropriate software including;
  • MYOB, MS Words, Excel and Power Point and high speed broadband internet
  • A student library with text and other reference materials which are available for use in the College and to borrow
  • Access to printer, fax and scanner
  • The college also has student amenities such as a lunch break area and kitchen with hot water and microwave.
Resources & Study Material The College provides trainers sets of workbooks to take to the class for students to use and work on their assessment and other class activities. The books must be returned to the trainer at the end of the class.
